Neck Lift With Platysma Muscle Repair

Aging is a natural process that happens to everyone. However, some people show the signs of aging earlier than others. Often, the lower face begins to sag as the muscles and skin lose some of their elasticity and begin to loosen. Sometimes the weakened neck muscles separate, which causes a waddle-type look. Fat can also be deposited under the chin, thickening and widening the neck. Nowadays, people have more active lifestyles that don’t match the age their facial features show. This is when they begin looking into the neck lift procedure.

The neck lift removes excess fat and skin under the neck, tightens muscles and then re-drapes the skin. It can improve the jaw-line and correct the double chin. The neck muscles, or platysma are tightened and repositioned. This procedure can be performed in conjunction with a facelift or as a stand-alone procedure. Sometimes, liposuction in this area is all that is required to make the necessary changes. However, liposuction is often used in conjunction with surgical procedures in order to restore a more youthful appearance.

A neck lift will generally take approximately 2 to 3 hours. Either general or local anesthesia will be used, usually with an I.V. This is done as an outpatient surgery. A person having this procedure will be back to work in about one or two weeks. The recovery is reasonable, and some bruising, minimal swelling and numbness are to be expected. With any surgery, there is a slight risk of infection, so it is important that you follow the post-operative instructions given you by your board certified surgeon.
