Oscar Fashion With a Twist

With the Oscars done and dusted once again it’s certainly been a notable one for successful women out there as Katherin Bigelow’s brilliant film the Hurt Locker scooped six Oscars. Most notably those for best picture and best director. However it also saw success for the larger lady as Mo’Nique walked away with the best supporting actress award for her role in Precious. Furthermore the film also brought notable mention for Gabourey Sidibe in the starring role which prompted the question, what other curvy women have in the past gone on to great success and accolade.

There have been many successful and curvy women in a range of areas from music to modelling. One of the most successful being Aretha Franklin who became one of the most successful and renowned songstresses of her generation she had an array of hits. She’s not the only famous artist either. What about Missy Elliot for a more modern success story. Sure she might not be to everyone’s taste but aside from a range of hits she’s also produced and managed various other successful artists.

As for comedy, there is an abundance of larger women touring the circuit from across the pond there are comediens such as Roseanne Barr and Rosie O’Donnell. Not only have these women had successful comedy careers, they’ve also appeared in successful TV shows and movies. As for movies there are an abundance of actresses out there who have become known as greats. Cathy Bates has become well known for such comedy turns as about Schmidt alongside Jack Nicholson as well as appearing as the terrifying fan in Misery.

There are also an array of plus size clothes models such as Kimberly Locke who was made famous from her success in American Idol. Also there is Toccara Jones and Mia Tyler, sister of actress Liv Tyler. Even in sports there is success for the bigger bustier women as the tennis sisters Serena and Venus show. It certainly doesn’t bring success in sports to be a petite Russian woman anyway. The fact is that whether a woman is petite or a plus size 26 there is plenty of room out there for successful women.

In time we’ll surely find a great deal more voluptuous and successful women in all areas as many of these women pave the way for future women.
